Do I Need a Smile Makeover?

Cosmetic dentistry is ideal for resolving many different dental issues at a time. If you find that your smile does not have the original luster that it used to, chances are there’s a cosmetic treatment that can meet your needs. For example, if you have stains from the foods you eat or because of an underlying condition during your younger years (i.e. tetracycline stains), you may want a smile makeover. Furthermore, if you have stained teeth, gaps in your smile, cosmetic chips and cracks, or all of the above, a smile makeover can effectively address all of them simultaneously.

What Dental Services Can Be Used in a Smile Makeover?

We offer many cosmetic treatments all under one roof, so there’s no need to travel between multiple offices just to receive the smile of your dreams. Not only do we provide powerful in-office teeth whitening, but you can purchase take-home whitening kits if needed. Cosmetic bonding is perfect for reshaping chipped teeth or visible cracks in your enamel, while gum recontouring ensures more of your enamel is visible in your smile. For truly stubborn teeth, porcelain veneers can provide a level of versatility that is truly unmatched. We’ll walk you through each treatment in better detail so you can find out if it’s right for you!

The Lasting Benefits of Smile Makeovers

We can’t wait to help you get the smile you’ve always wanted and give you the confidence to start showing it off to friends and family. When you have a beautiful smile, you’ll notice that you’ll have far more confidence throughout your day-to-day life. This can give you a major boost in your mood as well as your overall self-esteem, especially in situations where you may feel nervous or anxious (such as a job interview or meeting new people for the first time.)

Additionally, if you have an incredibly important event coming up, such as a wedding, a large work engagement, or another occasion you want to look your best for, you’ll not only look your best during that event, but you’ll feel your best along the way. Furthermore, your smile will last for many years before needing any type of touch-up, especially for porcelain veneers.

The Smile Makeover Process

When you first arrive, we’ll ask you about your smile goals and concerns, then perform a detailed exam of your current smile in order to determine which treatments would best achieve your ideal appearance. We’ll break down the pros and cons of each treatment, then determine which combination of services you think would best help you reach your new smile. Some services can be done the same day you arrive, while others require multiple visits to complete (i.e. porcelain veneers.)

Smile Makeover FAQs

We encourage our patients to let us know right away if they have any questions about the treatments we offer. With a smile makeover, learning as much as you can about the process beforehand is especially important since there are multiple procedures involved. Reach out to us right away for any inquiries you might have about the makeover process. The following FAQs can help you get started on the right foot; they include answers to several topics that our team is often asked about.

The timeline for the smile makeover process depends heavily on the kind of procedures involved and how many of them there are. Procedures like teeth whitening and cosmetic bonding are very short and can usually be completed in just one appointment. Meanwhile, placing veneers involves at least two visits, so the treatment typically takes a matter of weeks to complete.

When planning your smile makeover, we’ll take your own needs into account while also considering the amount of time required for each step. Our goal is to make a plan that is accommodating to your schedule.

Very young children (such as those around toddler age) should not have smile makeovers performed. Other than that, though, most people can undergo the process regardless of age.

The more important factor is your oral health; you can only have cosmetic dentistry done if you are not currently suffering from tooth decay or gum disease. Even if you are struggling with these types of dental issues, that doesn’t disqualify you permanently; you may be able to pursue a smile makeover once your mouth is healthy again.

Keep in mind, though, that when it comes to teeth whitening specifically, most dentists recommend waiting until at least age 14.

No matter what kind of treatments were included as part of your smile makeover, the main strategy for helping them last as long as possible remains the same: excellent oral hygiene. Remember to brush two times every day and to make a daily habit of flossing. Also, we recommend visiting our Houston office once every six months to let our team examine and clean your smile.

If you want to minimize staining on your newly refreshed grin, be careful about what you put in your mouth. Try to stay away from wine, tea, coffee, and any other beverages that are known to cause tooth discoloration.

It depends on the lifespan of the different treatments that were included as part of the makeover. Cosmetic bonding can last anywhere from 3 to 10 years, and the lifespan for teeth whitening can be as long as 2 or 3 years. Veneers are noticeably more durable; they last around 10 years on average, but many people are able to keep them for up to 20 years at a time. And of course, the maintenance you give to your smile after your makeover plays a major role.
