Why Choose Mark Gray, DDS Cosmetic and Family Dentistry?

Dental Restoration Solutions

To replace one tooth, there are two options. Traditionally, dentists relied on dental crown supported fixed bridges to replace one tooth. This treatment uses healthy teeth on either side of the empty socket to support the replacement tooth. The new tooth is fused to dental crowns on both sides. The crowns are then attached to healthy teeth for support. While this restoration preserves the structure of your smile, it doesn’t necessarily provide the stimulus necessary to maintain jawbone density and gum tissue volume, and it requires the removal of tooth enamel to attach the dental crowns.

In many cases, we recommend dental implant supported tooth replacement instead of fixed bridges to repair the smile from the roots up. While this treatment option takes a greater time commitment, it also delivers longer lasting, more natural results and preserves healthy tooth enamel and supportive structures.

The Dental Implant Process

To replace a single tooth with dental implants, we’ll need to plan for and complete a multi-phase dental restoration process. The first step is preparation. This could include removing damaged teeth, placing a bone or soft tissue graft, and offering services like gum disease treatment to ensure optimal oral health before we begin.

Once your smile is prepared, we’ll place your dental implant post directly into your jawbone. This process involves making a small incision in the gums. Then, a protective cap is placed over the top of the implant site to protect it as it heals and maintain the gum tissue shape until we can attach the dental crown.

For three to six months, the implant will be allowed to fuse with the gum and bone tissue. Then, an abutment is attached, and we design the dental crown. When the lab returns the custom dental crown to our dental office, you will return for the final step in the process. We will affix your dental crown to the implant post, recreating your flawless smile.
